Room Relationships and Sizes
Here are my questions to the chapter "Room Relationships and Sizes".
-
Three main areas of a home are service, sleeping, and living areas.
-
Closet area for each bedroom should be at least 4 feet long and 2 ft deep. Walk in closets should be a minimum of 6x6 feet, but 6x8 feet provides more space.
-
Dining room, family room and nook should be near the kitchen to allow for easy access to food. Also a kitchen should be near family room to keep families in the two different rooms close.
-
The functions of a utility room are to do laundry, to sew, and to iron.
-
Standard size for a two-car garage is 20x22.
-
Five functions of family room are: to eat, to watch TV, to sort laundry, informal entertainment, playing pool.
-
Bedrooms on the upper floor are away from living areas, and are naturally warmed up by the heat from the lower room moving up.
-
Bedrooms on the lower floor are away from living areas, and are naturally cooler.
-
Four design criteria to consider when planning the dining room are: easy access from the living room, easy access from the kitchen, away from the sleeping area, enough space for chairs, tables, china cabinets, and walkways.
-
Service areas of the home are: kitchen, bathroom, utility, garage.
